Dear Center Supporter, The newest wolf-kill tally is in: More than 3,400 wolves have been hounded, gunned down and trapped since politicians took away protection in six states -- 641 since September alone. Each kill can shatter a pack and destroy a family. Help us stop this brutal killing campaign once and for all. A generous donor has committed $30,000 to fight wolf killing if we can match it. Give now to the Wolf Defense Fund so that we can match your donation in the fight for wolves. Wolves are a highly social species, forming lifelong packs to raise their young. When wolves are killed, the stability of these packs is destroyed and they can no longer work together to forage in the wild. Without their families, pups don't stand a chance. The key argument in favor of killing wolves is to protect domestic sheep and cattle. But a new study shows that this kind of wanton killing usually backfires -- when we shatter packs and drive wolves to desperation we make them more likely to go after livestock. Wolf hunting can actually increase cattle loss. We can stop this senseless killing. Give now and your donation will be even more powerful. Not satisfied with the deaths of 3,459 wolves, politicians want to spread the slaughter across the nation. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is being pressured to do nationwide what they've done in states like Idaho -- end wolf protection and allow open season. If the government abandons wolves, more will be gut shot and trapped, and more wolf families will be destroyed. More pups will starve in the winter snows. The Center knows how to win for wolves. We've gotten them protected in California, won in court to stop Wyoming's vicious hunt, and shut down an Idaho wolf-killing contest on BLM land. Wolves have no more effective ally than our lawyers, scientists and activists. But we can only win for wolves with your support. Please give now so that we can reach our goal of raising $30,000 for the Wolf Defense Fund. If we do, a committed wolf lover will match that amount. For the wolves, | | Kierán Suckling Executive Director Center for Biological Diversity @KieranSuckling | | P.S. Any day the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service could take away federal protection from nearly every wolf in the country. We're preparing for the court battle of the century when they do. Your donation to the Wolf Defense Fund will be matched today if we raise $30,000. Please help us meet this goal with your special donation.
