| Because New York Banned Fracking: Matching Gift Extended Through 12/31! Donate Today to Protect Your Food and Water — And Your Impact Will Be Tripled! Indiana,
Great news! One of our major donors was so inspired by the victory to ban fracking in New York last week, that they are stepping up to extend Ann's 2-to-1 matching gift to everyone through the end of the year!
Can you make a year-end donation today to help protect more families from fracking and keep our food safe? The victory in New York proves that our winning combination of strong positions, the research to back them up and building people power to hold elected officials accountable is how we win. There are so many issues that need this type of effective approach, and if you make a year-end donation to Food & Water Watch this year, here's how we'll use your donation in 2015:
1. Protect More Families From Fracking — We will continue our work to ban fracking in many states including California, Maryland and others as well as taking on new work at the federal level to ban fracking on public lands and in national forests. We worked with Representative Pocan to introduce a bill last week that is the strongest anti-fracking bill that has ever been introduced in Congress, and we will work to get co-sponsors to help move the bill through Congress.
2. Label Genetically Engineered Foods Everywhere — We will work to pass laws that require labeling genetically engineered foods in many states, including New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida and others. We believe that we all have a right to know what is in the food we eat and feed our families. We'll also be fighting to stop the Monsanto Dream Bill from passing through Congress that would stop all state-level labeling laws.
3. Stop Secret Trade Deals — We're working to stop the Fast Track authority for the Trans-Pacfic Partnership, a secret trade deal that would give corporations the ability to override local laws such as banning fracking and labeling genetically engineered foods.
4. End the Overuse of Antibiotics on Factory Farms — Our organizing staff will be working to educate the public and to pass local resolutions to save antibiotics for medicine by stopping the overuse of antibiotics on factory farms. We'll be putting pressure on key senators to move this forward in 2015.
5. Fight Factory Farm Expansion and Consolidation in the Food System — Our staff will be working to stop state-level legislation that benefits factory farms, such as bills that make it illegal to be a whistleblower on animal abuse, or bills that take away a local community's ability to regulate factory farms.
6. Put a Moratorium on Food Mergers in the U.S. — Our policy and research staff will pressure the Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney General to stop the food industry mergers that are squeezing out small and medium-sized farmers and giving us less choice in what we can buy at the grocery store.
7. Provide Viable Solutions for Local Food Systems — We're going to publish a guide for people that lets people know how they can make change in their local food systems, with viable recommendations to truly make our food system fair for all.
8. Global Frackdown to the Paris Climate Summit — Next December, international leaders will convene in Paris to discuss agreements on how to limit global climate change. We will use the Global Frackdown in 2015 to ensure that our leaders don't include fracking as a "climate-friendly" solution.
9. Keep Our Water Systems in Public Control — We believe that access to safe water is a human right, and we will continue our work to keep our water systems under public control, and stop the corporate privatization that leads to rate hikes and poor service for water ratepayers.
10. Keep Our Food Safe — Our policy staff will continue to monitor our food safety systems to make sure that we are protected from imported food that doesn't meet our strict safety standards, like chicken that has been produced in China. We will also continue our work to stop the privatization of meat inspection in the U.S.
You bet that's an ambitious plan! And we need your help to win. Can you make a year-end donation today to help keep your food and water safe in 2015?
When I started Food & Water Watch nine years ago, I could not have anticipated how we would grow, or how many campaigns we would win that bring real improvement in people's lives. We have grown from an organization of 11 to now over 95 staff in 17 offices throughout the U.S. More importantly, we've grown a base of supporters that is more than 700,000 strong. This year alone, our supporters like you have taken more than 2 million actions to keep our food safe and our water clean.
We stand up to the corporations that want to put their profits before our health and safety, and remain free from corporate influence by refusing to take money from corporations or the government. Which is why I'm asking you to make a donation to Food & Water Watch today.
When you donate, a generous donor will match your gift so that your donation will go three times as far, and Food & Water Watch can work in more communities to ban fracking and keep our food safe in 2015. Together we will win, Wenonah Hauter Executive Director Food & Water Watch wenonah(at)fwwatch(dot)org |
