Here's your chance to vote for the person who stood up for science in 2014 that most inspires you. Dear UCS supporter, While partisanship and rancor have polluted public discussions about science at the national level, an inspiring number of scientists, community leaders, and even comedians stood up for science in 2014. We applaud their efforts and want to recognize them for what they’ve accomplished. We also want to give you the chance to vote for the one whose story most inspires you. Will it be Kathy Miller, who kept misinformation about global warming out of Texas schoolbooks? Or Andrew Whelton, who brought a team of scientists to West Virginia to test drinking water after a chemical spill made hundreds of people sick? Or David Hastings, who opened the mind of a governor on the front lines of climate change? Or perhaps Karen Wolk Feinstein's work bringing grandmothers together to educate families about the importance of vaccinations will inspire you most. At a time when science and scientists are routinely attacked, undermined, and misrepresented—we take this moment to recognize some of those who stood up for science this year.
