Gartner Names Level 3 as a Challenger in 2015 Magic Quadrant for Network Services, Global

BROOMFIELD, Colo., Feb. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Gartner named global telecommunications provider Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) a Challenger in its January 2015 Global Network Services Magic Quadrant* report for the first time, moving it from the Niche Players position.

Enterprises' global network needs are evolving rapidly, driven by cloud IT adoption and the growing importance of emerging markets. The report assesses suppliers that can deliver fixed networking services worldwide with a focus on optimal customer service. Additionally, it recognizes key market changes for global customers including their need to access emerging capabilities like cloud and Network Function Virtualization (NFV)-based offerings, to have broad geographic reach and to maintain flexibility and agility when purchasing services.

"We believe our position is a testament to the importance of a secure and flexible network strategy for enterprises as they address the increasingly complex operating environment of today's technology landscape," said Anthony Christie, chief marketing officer for Level 3. "Focusing on providing an excellent customer experience while meeting the evolving needs of our global customer base has shaped Level 3's strategy around network expansion and our innovative product offerings."

Recognizing the importance of a global strategy, Level 3 grew its network by adding 22 MPLS Points of Presence in key markets such as Marseille and Budapest, amongst others. Through its acquisition of U.S.-based tw telecom, Level 3 tripled its on-net building presence in North America for a total of 30,000 connected buildings.
