Today I'd like to share a few thoughts and ideas about achieving your goals both on the guitar, and in life.

How to achieve all your musical goals Today I'd like to share a few thoughts and ideas about achieving your goals both on the guitar, and in life. First of all, if you're going to set goals, I think the best way to do it is to have short term, medium, and long term goals.  Personally, I have quite a lot of long term goals on the guitar.  I want to be able to play multiple styles well.  Maybe you have a favorite style you want to master. Next is medium term. I think having a specific objective for the next 3, 6, or 12 months is a good medium term goal. Sometimes these goals can change, so be flexible. You can suddenly realize that you may want to take a slightly different course, For example, for me, I started out this year playing mostly jazz, but now I'm more focused on playing and singing popular songs. Short term goals are good for the month, week, or even a single practice session.  ...and if you have a specific goal for each practice session, you will maximize that session through the power of focused intention. As you chart the course of your musical journey (which is a lifelong process), these three sets of goals can help you can make sure that your ship is steered toward your ultimate long term dreams while still finding time for diversions and explorations into strange and beautiful realms along the way. well, I think that is enough waxing philosophical for one email...I'll share more ramblings another time.
