USO Supporter – Winston Churchill once said, “We shape our buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us.” The USO has shaped many buildings, but it is what happens inside these facilities that matters most. The USO’s more than 160 locations around the world are sanctuaries for rest, healing and restoring morale to our troops and their families. I know from my own service how much it means to have a place to turn. Some are shaped by necessity, like the tents of Camp Marmal, Afghanistan. Others, like the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir that supports wounded, ill and injured troops, are state-of-the-art. The USO is not a government agency – we depend on the generosity of USO supporters like you to keep our centers open and ready to support our troops 365 days a year. The USO established our Everywhere, Everyday Campaign to encourage 550 patriotic Americans to support our USO centers around the world before midnight, March 31. Every USO center is different, because each one is built to serve its community. At airports across the country, troops can count on one last piece of home on their way to duty stations around the world – and a warm welcome when they’re headed home. On bases, USO centers offer everything from free phone calls to family to Super Bowl parties at 2:30 a.m. local time in Afghanistan to a hot cup of coffee after a mission. I had the unique honor of commanding some of the nation’s bravest men and women, and the USO’s presence, from the day my men and women signed up until they transitioned to civilian life, reminded them just how grateful the American people are for their service. It did for me, too. We launched our Everywhere, Everyday Campaign because we can’t continue to do all this without you.
