The 'New Worker' Challenges Traditional Office Structure - Unified Communications

Recently there has been a bonanza of new announcements illustrating how RTC is putting together mobile devices with existing collaboration tools for supporting New Worker teams that can be both geographically distributed and what I call payroll distributed -- the aforementioned groups above, plus traditional businesses that bring in one or more of those groups to work on projects.
ADTRAN announced earlier this week that it had added its NetVanta Ethernet switches to its ProCloud service. The addition will allow customers to have better management over their networks, resulting in more uptime in an environment where global access is expected 24/7.
A recent New York Times article highlighted a vision of many for the 21st century: device syncing. As the nature of business becomes more mobile in today's always-on, always plugged in landscape, the ability to sync one's devices in a way to streamline communications can prove to be an invaluable tool.
Unified communications (UC) is the glue that holds a lot of the mobile workforce together. It's great to be able to work from pretty much anywhere at pretty much any time, but doing so requires the ability to get in touch with other elements of that mobile workforce as needed. This is a development Verizon understands, and has therefore ramped up development in UC with several new options.
