15 Dog Shower Thoughts

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 04:00 AM PDT

Your human has placed you in the bathtub. Now water flows over your body, sadly removing all of the good scents that you have worked to hard to accumulate. It is a sad time. But it is also a contempative time. Let the water pulse over your body. Let your mind relax and reach new, previously unconsidered possibilities.

These are shower thoughts. The subreddit Dog Shower Thoughts is a place for your dog to submit his own. Jamie Jones of BuzzFeed illustrated 15 moments of profound canine wisdom.

Technically Speaking, Wonder Woman Is Bulletproof

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 02:00 AM PDT

She's not as invulnerable as Superman, but small arms fire can't hurt her a bit. It just . . . nudges her. A little bit. Enough to be noticeable. And enough to annoy her.

Photoshop artist Kerry Callen rewrites classic comic books to show funny scenes. In the past, he's created animated .gifs of famous covers, depicted Batman as a hoarder, and shown what Superman is trying to do in his first appearance.

25 Non-Sports Trading Cards That Actually Existed

Posted: 06 Apr 2015 01:00 AM PDT

Did you ever collect trading cards as a kid (or as an adult)? I remember a number of them being passed around when I was in elementary school. Can't say I've ever seen any of the cards presented in the grouping in this article, however. The collection ranges from slightly odd to outright bad taste. The card shown above, from a series called "Dinosaurs Attack," falls into the odd category. Topps manufactured the pre-Jurassic Park dinosaur cards in 1988. They featured images of dinosaurs attacking citizens of the modern day, such as in the masterpiece above.

Below we have Desert Storm trading cards, made by Topps in 1991. I don't know about you, but I think there is something bordering on obscene about a trading card set based on a war. Does anyone disagree? Weigh in with your opinion on that or your experience with odd or other trading cards below, if you're so inclined.

In the past, Cassandra has shown us the differences between the expectations and reality of long hair and painful truths about having it.

Now she shows us 9 more problems that people with short hair probably never think about.

Dual-Gender Tyrion Lannister Cosplay Turns Heads

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 10:00 PM PDT

A woman at a fan convention took the Lannister line "God of T*ts and Wine" to heart when she showed up decked out in the above ensemble. Assumedly inciting excitement as well as momentary confusion, this genetically gifted cosplayer took in the con while wearing her Dinklage mask, (P)imp goblet and, likely, a hidden smile.

Full Body Drum Kit

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 08:00 PM PDT

Yamaha is popularly known for producing two types of consumer goods: motorcycles and musical instruments. In an experiment called AH A MAY (Yamaha spelled backwards), the company switched design teams from its motorcycle and musical instrument divisions. Now the musical instrument designers were tasked with coming up with a motorcycle and the motorcycle engineers had to build a new type of musical instrument.

One of the musical instruments that resulted from this switch is the Raijin, which means "God of Thunder." It's a drum kit that wraps completely around the drummer's body. Rain Noe of Core77 points out that it looks like something you'd expect to use in zero gravity.

A Quick History of Cadbury Eggs

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 06:00 PM PDT

If you're among the many, many people out there who recently gulped down the sugary filling from a Cadbury Egg today, chances are you probably didn't think for a second about how that particular Easter confection got its start. But the story of the Cadbury Egg is surprisingly interesting.

It all started in 1824, when John Cadbury opened up a shop in Birmingham, England. No, it wasn't a candy shop -it was a cafe. In 1831, he and his brother decided to open a factory to produce better drinking chocolate for the cafe. It wasn't until much later that Cadbury even started working on making moldable chocolate and his famous egg wasn't born until 1875. The eggs we eat today weren't created until almost 100 years later though.

This Magical Mop Moves on Its Own

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 04:00 PM PDT

The Komondor dog originates in Hungary, where it was a sheepdog. It looks like a sheep. Or, to modern owners, it looks like a mop. To complete the illusion, all that is necessary is to add a few props.

Peep Out These Totally Charming Artworks Made From Peeps

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 02:00 PM PDT

We've featured Peep dioramas in the past, but the Carroll County Arts Council's Peep Show takes things beyond mere dioramas (though they still have a few of those too). Their delightful display transcends a variety of art forms, including sculptures made from Peeps and paintings based on our favorite overly-sweet Easter treats.

If you live in the area, you can still make it to the show, but hurry because tomorrow is its last day. You can eve buy some of the artworks if you so please. As for the rest of us, we'll just have to settle for this slideshow from Refinery 29 featuring a few art pieces in the current exhibit and the Carroll Arts Center's Flickr that features many of the Peeps creations from past years.

How The Millennium Falcon Fits Into Star Wars

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 12:00 PM PDT

The Millennium Falcon is one of the most iconic starships in the history of science fiction, and both its overall look and the role it played in the original trilogy’s storyline influenced the role starships played in many sci-fi movies to come.

Han’s iconic smuggler ship has been commemorated and brought to life as toys, model kits, beds, cake molds, and countless DIY projects, and even though it’s not as shiny as other sci-fi ships it’s definitely an integral part of the Star Wars universe.

This detailed graphic lays out all the ways the Millennium Falcon played in to the original trilogy (and its brief appearance in Episode III), and even if you already know

Rubik's Cube Animation

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 10:00 AM PDT

(YouTube link)

We’ve seen before that the faces of Rubik’s cubes can be used as pixels for artworks. Mystery Guitar Man and friends took that idea a step further by making a stop-motion animation by configuring 1296 mini-Rubik’s cubes and changing them 961 times to create a pixelated cartoon about a robot falling in love. The cartoon is only a minute and a half long, then he talks for a while. -via Viral Viral Videos

Deviled Eggs, 20 Ways

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 08:00 AM PDT

Smoked Salmon, Lemon and Caper Deviled Eggs

This is the time of year that a favorite dish is frequently served: deviled eggs. As I love to entertain and to cook, I often have people over for meals. Many times, deviled eggs are on the table as one of the appetizers. They are always a popular item as they are traditional and delicious, yet also low carb, and their fat content can easily be adjusted if desired. I sometimes make them simply, with extra mustard, mayonnaise, a dash or two of either lemon juice, vinegar or hot sauce, and always a lot of chopped, fresh dill. If I want to get more elaborate, this recipe from Emeril Lagasse for deviled eggs with lump crabmeat is never left over. (My one deletion is the caviar/salmon roe.)

This article from Southern Living offers up nineteen ways to prepare deviled eggs. Their recipes look appetizing and simple to prepare, for the most part.

Are you a fan of this classic dish? If so, what's your favorite way to make them?

The Watering of the Girls

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 07:00 AM PDT

An Easter tradition in Hungary involves throwing buckets of water on young women of marriageable age. Really. On the day after Easter, known as Easter Monday, the women dress up in traditional clothing, and young men dowse them with water in a custom called “the watering of the girls.”

The custom isn’t limited to Hungary. In Hungary, the ritual is called VízbevetÅ‘. In Poland, it’s known as Åšmigus-Dyngus. There are variations in other Eastern European countries as well. In some places, you don’t need to dress up to get wet; in others, a little spritz of perfume replaces the drenching. Sometimes the dowsing is accompanied by poetry reading or symbolic “whipping” with pussy willows. Traditionally, the girls are supposed to return the favor on Tuesday, but in reality, all the shenanigans go on the same day.

This is supposed to be a pre-Christian cleansing ritual to promote fertility, but it cannot be all that fun for the women. I sure hope it’s warm in Hungary this Easter! See pictures of modern-day waterings at Buzzfeed.

12 Cool-Shaped Islands around the World

The islands are smiling at you!

The left eye is named Mamutik. The right eye is named Sulug. The big grin is named Manukan. Together, these three islands in Malaysia are sometimes called the Smiley Islands. They're part of a national park and are a popular location for scuba diving.

When on Earth rounded up photos and information about 12 islands that are shaped like recognizable objects, such as a crocodile, a seahorse, a boomerang, and a slice of pizza. I want to visit the pizza island in the Azores.

Who Wouldn't Want A Dog Like Peperonie?

Posted: 05 Apr 2015 05:00 AM PDT

Peperonie is the ideal dog- he's hairless, barkless and super mellow, and Peperonie prefers yams and berries to dry kibble and canned meat products.

(Image Link)

The only problem with Peperonie is that he's not a dog, he's a Blue Tongued Skink.

But if you simply ignore this fact and believe his owner's hilarious assertions that Peperonie is the best dog on the planet you'll soon come to see Peperonie through his adoring eyes.

Peperonie is celebrating his first birthing day and waiting for his owner to finish transforming into a lich so Peperonie can become a lich's familiar and have his life extended by a hundred thousand years! (Contains NSFW language)
