A Gathering of Gargoyles at Medieval Collectibles

Originally an architectural feature, the gargoyle has undergone a transformation over the years to become more than just decoration. This stone sentry which perches atop many ancient cathedrals and castles is often considered a protector and defender despite its beastly appearance. The legend of the gargoyle as a force against evil likely comes from a French tale about St. Romanus, who defeated a monster called Gargouille. This creature was said to be a dragon with bat-like wings, a long neck, and the ability to breathe fire. St. Romanus defeated the creature and burned its body, although its head and neck would not burn, having been tempered by the beast's own flames. The head was then mounted on a newly erected church to scare off evil spirits. Today, the gargoyle continues its vigil, and at Medieval Collectibles, we can offer you an array of protective yet frightening gargoyle beasts to add to your decor, including stone colored statues, candle holders, trinket boxes, and more. So if you love intriguing stone guardians or need a bit of protection against evil and bad spirits, you should grab some of our gargoyles today!

Sincerely,
Medieval Collectibles
