While the proposed merger of Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Networks crawls along at a snail's pace, Alcatel-Lucent hasn't slowed down at all. In fact, news from AlcaLu this week was all about speed. The company's new carrier SDN solution enables operators to provision services in seconds and cut development time in half. On the mobile side, Alcatel-Lucent and KT partnered to develop speedy 5G mobile solutions. Nokia Networks has continued to innovate at speed as well. Nokia just shrank an entire LTE network down to the size of small box that can be powered by a car-based power inverter. The field transportable solution can be deployed within a few minutes as an independent LTE network with full macro site performance.
