Please RSVP To this event at www.mstl.org by Monday at 5pm. I could also use some more volunteers for set up, clean up, registering guests and pouring wine. It's a great way to meet everyone at the event. If you can get there at 6pm and would like one of these opportunities, please contact suzannemoak@yahoo.com ASAP. Metropolis Wine Club - French Wines in Compton Heights Tuesday, June 30, 2015, 6:30 - 8:30 pm Private Residence, 3106 Allen Ave. 63104 Sample French wines at a private historic home in the Compton Heights neighborhood with a large lush garden and pool. Each guest brings a bottle of French wine or a plate of appetizers to share. Our hosts, Lala and Jon Franklin, who have also hosted us at their shop, Boheme Atelier on Cherokee street, have lived in this 3-story Queen Anne Victorian house since 2013 and have since made upgrades. The house, which was featured on the 2012 Compton Heights house tour, was built in 1907 by Louis Ganahl, the president of the Ganahl Planing Mill and Manufacturing Co, which explains a lot of the abundant millwork. Also featured is original stained glass, fireplaces, hardwood floors, pocket doors, and a large wraparound front porch. There is also an original voice tube intercom system which still functions. The large beautifully landscaped backyard garden also features an in ground swimming pool and several fish ponds. Compton Heights, on the near southside, was laid out in 1889 as one of the earliest planned residential developments in St. Louis, and viewed nature as a neighbor with wide setbacks and curving streets, rather than the common grid design. The entire neighborhood, with over 200 houses, was designated an Historic District in 1978. See www.comptonheights.org. RSVP to www.mstl.org by 5pm on June 29.
