Last night's debate may have made for good entertainment, but that is just about where its value stopped. Donald Trump issued perhaps the most accurate statement of the night at one point stopping to ask, "Wait, what am I saying?" The answer, for him and other candidates: nothing really. There were cringe-worthy moments and gaffes of the kind that make for great television, but little substance. In fact, in the nearly three and a half hours of debating between the two events, there was virtually no mention of working families and middle class Americans at all. Yesterday morning the Cleveland Plain Dealer featured a front page story about the “vanishing middle class” in Ohio. We are betting the writers couldn’t have predicted the middle class would also vanish from the presidential debate. |
