Papa Dog loves his puppy, even though he's not blood kin. It takes a pack to raise one, you know. So he makes sure that the vulnerable infant stays warm while napping. -via Gifsboom

For example, I had never noticed the slight attempt at beefcake made by the Raiders of the Lost Ark poster, with Harrison Ford's shirt unbuttoned to near nip-slip territory. They have him posed almost like a cheesy Chippendale dancer. Want to see a huge grouping of movie posters without words? Naturally, there's a tumblr for that. Via BuzzFeed
| Ridiculously Funny Comic Series About Men Being Fooled By Makeup Posted: 28 Sep 2015 02:00 AM PDT Have you ever heard a guy claim that a girl tricked him into being attracted to her by wearing makeup? I definitely have, and aside from the fact that this is one of the most shallow and victim complex-based things a guy can say about a girl, it's also utterly ridiculous. Illustrator Megan Nicole Dong took the ridiculous premise of men being deceived by makeup to even more ridiculous places in the series she posted to her Sketch Shark Tumblr page. You'll see men falling off cliffs, kissing pig bottoms and waiting by the chimney for Santa to arrive, all because they were deceived by makeup. -Via Boing Boing | ||||||||
| Posted: 28 Sep 2015 01:00 AM PDT The villains of the classic Disney animated films really should have read the Evil Overlord List. Item #4 is immediately relevant to the Evil Queen in Show White: "Shooting is not too good for my enemies." The Queen should have found the quickest, easiest means of dispatching her enemy. She didn't and paid the price for her overly-complicated plan. Paul Westover and Andrew Bridgman present to us If Disney Villains Were Smart. 6 cartoons illustrate how Cruela de Vil, Jafar, Gaston, Ursula the Sea Witch, and Cinderella's stepmother might have prevailed if they had been just a little bit brighter. | ||||||||
| The Burglar King - I'll Gladly Pay You Tuesday For A Hamburger Today...Psyche! Posted: 28 Sep 2015 12:00 AM PDT The burger market had dropped dramatically, and those who'd given their lives to selling sizzling beef patties between buns discovered they were up ketchup creek without a paddle. Nobody was hit as hard by this economic cheeseburger crash as the King, who now ruled a kingdom full of burgers he couldn't give away. The King of all burgers was lost, trying to find a new niche and return his fast food kingdom to its former glory, but everywhere he looked it seemed like fried food was doomed. So King came up with a better plan for making lots of cold, hard cheddar- he would steal from the rich and poor and become burger rich again! Add a tasty new design to your geeky wardrobe, bring home this The Burglar King t-shirt by Kris and watch all your friends try to steal the shirt right off your back! | Posted: 28 Sep 2015 12:00 AM PDT It is estimated that two million children have fled from the war in Syria and surrounding countries with or without their families over the past five years. Award-winning photographer Magnus Wennman traveled to various refugee camps and gatherings of refugee groups in many countries to document their plight. A series of his pictures showing where the children sleep is accompanied by their stories at the Swedish site Aftonbladet. Shown above is 5-year-old Lamar, and here’s her story.
That is only one of 22 such stories in the post. See more of Wennman’s photography at Instagram. Some of it may be disturbing. -via Metafilter
| This Monkey Looks Like Wolverine Posted: 27 Sep 2015 10:00 PM PDT
On the left is Marvel superhero Wolverine. On the right is a Wolf's mona monkey (Cercopithecus wolfi) photographed by Lessy Sebastian. Comic Book Resources points out that they're almost mirror images! If Marvel ever creates an alternate universe in which the X-Men are lower primates, then the Wolf's mona monkey is ready for a starring role. But wait--Marvel apparently already has! Now it's time for Marvel Apes to be a movie trilogy. -via Geek Tyrant
| How Disney Parks Make Sure You Don't Lose An Arm On Their Rides Posted: 27 Sep 2015 09:00 PM PDT They tell you to keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all time knowing riders will disobey because they've been taught that rollercoasters are most fun when your arms are in the air. But Disney parks have a reputation for being tidy, orderly and accident free, so how do they protect themselves from those rebel riders who refuse to keep their arms inside the car? They use this crazy looking contraption called the “envelope of protection”, which is covered in small pieces of wood that approximate the farthest points a rider can reach out on all sides. If any pieces are knocked off during the coaster's run the ride's safety engineers can locate the problem spot and help prevent future limb loss. -ViaLAist | ||||||||
| Starship Enterprise Shelf Posted: 27 Sep 2015 08:00 PM PDT Instructables member caitlinsdad has eclectic tastes. In the past, we've seen his jalapeño poppers that look like rats and his Star Wars theremin bra. Most recently, he built this wall-mounted shelf that looks like half of the Enterprise from Star Trek. The starboard engine nacelle extends to the wall, providing a handy shelf. The whole thing is made of cardboard, wood popsicle sticks, and fibreboard. He shaped and glued the pieces together, then stained the finished product with a cherry-colored combination stain and polyurethane. | ||||||||

“I have no idea what became of [Mejgon]. I’m sure it wasn’t good. The fact that I was powerless to do anything about it has been one of the main reasons why I continued the project and why I’m still working on it today.”See additional pictures and learn more about Sinclair's project here. | Posted: 27 Sep 2015 04:00 PM PDT Artist Simon Koay created a super geeky alphabet called Superbet, with each letter modeled after superheroes and super villains who have that letter in their names. Get a better look at each letter at Koay’s website. In case you can’t identify them all, here’s the cheat sheet:

| Watching Anthophobia Might Make You Afraid Of Flowers Posted: 27 Sep 2015 02:00 PM PDT Horror filmmakers try to stay in touch with the genre's roots, which is probably for the best because too much experimentation tends to cast a dark shadow upon a tried and true genre like horror. But sometimes it's fun to see someone go full freakazoid with their short film, creating something that is dark and disturbing even though we're not quite sure why the film is getting under our skin. Anthophobia is as bizarre as horror shorts come, but filmmaker Valentin Petit's incredibly captivating cinematography sucks you in despite the fact that you'll be thinking "WTF?" the whole time. | Posted: 27 Sep 2015 12:00 PM PDT Marlo Meekins has figured out the hot new costume for this Halloween. Her dog will be the star of any Halloween party he attends when he's dressed as Pizza Rat, the internet's hottest celebrity at the moment. Meekins has staged this video perfectly with an improvised subway backdrop. And just like how Pizza Rat tears off a piece of pizza at the end of his video, so does this dog. -via Parry Gripp | ||||||||
| Pit Bulls Picky as to Topic of Conversation Posted: 27 Sep 2015 10:00 AM PDT When Etienne Harris returns home after being away for the day, his pit bull terriers Missy and Laydie are excited and happy to see him and exchange greetings. Yet when it comes to the topic of any mischief they may have participated in while Harris was away, the dogs make it clear that he can talk to the paw. Via Tastefully Offensive | ||||||||
| Posted: 27 Sep 2015 08:00 AM PDT Kathleen Siegle made a batch of cupcakes that resemble a Sarlacc -the horrible, man-eating monster buried in the sands of Tattooine in the movie Return of the Jedi. The sand is really graham cracker crumbs, the tentacles are chocolate, and the teeth are almond slivers. Yum! The recipe and instructions are at Yummy Crumble. The Sarlacc cupcakes look fairly doable for an ambitious Star Wars fan, but Siegle also has some really artistic creations that are bit more intimidating, like the Sarlacc Bundt Cake, Tusken Raider Cookies, and a Wampa Cake. -Thanks, Kathleen! | ||||||||
| Be Cool - Live Life Like That Pizza Guy You Know Posted: 27 Sep 2015 07:00 AM PDT Take it from the dude who's got all the guys and gals looking to have him over for dinner- being cheesy is super cool! Pizza Guy proves you shouldn't care when people call you pizza face, or when they say you smell like aged mozarella, because pizza is the Fonzi of foods, meaning it is the absolute coolest! Of course, if you're more of a Kevin Kale kinda kid then maybe you shouldn't take advice from a guy with a slice of pizza for a head, because leafy greens are the lame and greasy pizza goodness is far too radical for you. Add some cheesy sauciness to your geeky wardrobe with this Be Cool t-shirt by Mykel AD, it's one tasty tee! | Watch This Guy Play 1 Song with 90 Instruments Posted: 27 Sep 2015 07:00 AM PDT
Joe Penna, the internet's Mystery Guitar Man, visited the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. That amazing institution has over 6,000 instruments. Penna sampled many and selected 90 to use while performing a 2-minute song. Here he is playing the surf rock and Eastern Mediterranean classic tune "Misirlou." Penna uses, among other instruments, a theremin, a berimbau, a kettle drum, and countless others that I can't identify. -via Gizmodo
| Posted: 27 Sep 2015 06:00 AM PDT John Mogan and Ashley Duboe were arrested last week in connection with a bank robbery in Asheville, Ohio. The bank was robbed on August 24 when a man wearing a hoodie demanded cash from a teller. Just a few days later, Mogan and Duboe began posting a series of photographs on Facebook featuring Mogan posing with wads of cash. Mogan is a convicted felon who was just released from prison after serving about five years for robbing a bank in Lancaster, a city 20 miles east of Ashville. A female accomplice was also arrested in connection with Mogan's July 2010 robbery of a Fairfield National Bank branch. Mogan and Duboe are being held in the Pickaway County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. You can see a slideshow of the incriminating images at The Smoking Gun. -via reddit |
