Only getting closer to a shutdown

Organizing for Action
Lewis --

It's been a few days since we sent out a reminder that Congress has just a week to pass a budget and avoid a government shutdown.

As of today, they've barely lifted a finger to get it done, but Congress is taking time to vote on their extreme political priorities -- like defunding Planned Parenthood and restricting women's reproductive rights.

Let's be clear: These votes aren't going to accomplish anything, other than showcase their backwards views on women's health.

This kind of stunt would be ridiculous even if it didn't risk another costly government shutdown.

Last time, the shutdown cost our economy $24 billion -- congressional inaction has consequences, and we can't forget that. Our economy is making progress, but we can't afford these kinds of self-inflicted wounds.

They have a few days left on the legislative calendar this month to keep the government running. It's their job -- and they ought to stop messing around with their extreme political priorities and just do it.

Forward this email to your friends today, and remind them that the clock is ticking for Congress to get its priorities straight.

Votes like these are frustrating -- but they're a reminder that we have to make our voices heard. It's up to us to pay attention and hold these extreme voices accountable.

Thanks,

Jack
