SPECIAL ISSUE!

Dear Colleague:

Because of your research interest in the field of obesity, we want to inform you about a new special issue of Translational Issues in Psychological Science“Psychological Advances in Obesity.”

Obesity affects approximately 35% of adults and 17% of children in the United States.* The adverse consequences of this highly prevalent condition for individuals are many, including cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancers, and osteoarthritis, as well as discrimination, increased vulnerability to depression, and lower self-esteem.

As the prevalence of obesity increases, the need for translational research that highlights the complex nature of obesity is more significant than ever. In this special issue, the focus is on psychological research and how it can help us understand the biological/neurological, environmental, sociocultural, and behavioral contributors to the etiology of obesity. The issue also includes research relevant to the prevention and treatment of obesity. The studies summarized provide a broad representation of obesity-related topics and will be of interest to researchers, clinicians, administrators, and policy-makers, as well as psychology-trainees and educators.

Some of the articles published in this special issue include:

Addressing the Obesity Epidemic Through Psychological Research

Inhibitory Control Is Associated With Psychosocial, Cognitive, and Weight Outcomes in a Longitudinal Sample of Girls

Addictive‐Like Eating Mediates the Association Between Eating Motivations and Elevated Body Mass Index

Evaluating Political Candidates: Does Weight Matter?
