Preserved and maintained by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department's Historic Burying Grounds Initiative, the Granary Burying Ground received a project grant from the Freedom Trail Foundation's Preservation Fund last year. The grant was used to restore the cast-iron ornamental fence and repair and clean the granite wall and entrance gate, all dating to 1840. Be sure to visit the Granary in bloom this spring, and check out the completed restoration work! | | | May is Preservation Month City of Boston's Preservation Month 2016 is part of an annual national celebration designed to raise awareness about the power historic preservation has to protect and enhance our historic communities. Freedom Trail sites celebrate Preservation Month with an array of events, exhibits, and activities along the Freedom Trail for adults and children, history buffs and curious visitors, commemorating this year's theme: Keep the Change. Along the Freedom Trail, Old State House, Old North Church, Old South Meeting House, and USS Constitution (USS Constitution Museum) will all be hosting exciting and interesting events addressing preservation at their sites.
