| 11 Fascinating Facts About Mad Max Posted: 22 May 2016 04:00 AM PDT In 1979, George Miller released a low-budget film in Australia called Mad Max that set profitability records and began a worldwide franchise of four movies (and one on the way). If you know anything about the first Mad Max movie, it’s probably that young Mel Gibson’s voice had to be dubbed for American audiences because of his thick Australian accent, even though he’s an American. That’s only partly true: all the actors were dubbed for the American release, and it had more to do with the Aussie slang than the accents. But I bet you didn’t know that director George Miller was a medical doctor.
But this trivia list isn’t just about the first Mad Max movie -it’s about all of them! Find more fascinating stories from behind the scenes at mental_floss.
| The Cone of Shame Has Never Been So Stylish Posted: 22 May 2016 02:00 AM PDT I'm not sure if this cat is a hipster or if it's his owner, but I am sure that this handlebar meowstache has certainly made the Cone of Shame a lot more entertaing. Redditor Lexsi04 says that after her friend's cat went through surgery, they decided to have a little fun -and I'm glad they decided to share their fun with the world. Via PetsLady | ||||||||

The critical difference is the amount of damage that a professional can do to his clients. A depraved lawyer can send innocent people to prison and an immoral journalist can spread destructive lies. We librarians can be fiendish, usually as a result of the dark rituals required in library school. But there's a reason why there are few villainous librarians in comics.
| Posted: 21 May 2016 10:00 PM PDT Grant Woolard, who gave us that awesome Classical Music Mashup a few months ago, is back to give the same treatment to Disney songs. he mixed 49 different songs into a pleasing mashup that highlights how similar some of them are, illustrated by musical notes made from icons of the movie, to make it easy for you to follow along. Some tunes stand out above the others, while some stay in the background, and others just blend well. I think you’ll like this! -Thanks, Marissa Bush! | ||||||||
| Side-By-Side Comparison Of The Warcraft Actors And Their CGI Characters Posted: 21 May 2016 08:00 PM PDT The World Of Warcraft movie we've been hearing about for years is finally about to come out, and fans of the MMO are so excited they've sworn to leave their PCs long enough to actually see the movie. But before Warcraft arrives in theaters we must behold all of the promo material to get our blood flowing for the battle. These incredibly cool side-by-side posters introduce us to the characters in a very original way- by showing us how the real face of the actor compares to the CGI face of the character. You can't tell if the movie is any good from these posters, but you can definitely see how great the character models are going to be! | Spidey Booty - Is This What Started The Civil War? Posted: 21 May 2016 06:00 PM PDT Spidey has an incredible sense of rhythm and an uncanny ability to sense danger, and sometimes the two come together in really freaky ways. And that's how the Spidey Booty dance was born, which is like twerking only way more dangerous. It helps if you have a few more spinal columns like the characters in comic books, so you can bend your back in totally unnatural ways, and it also helps if you find a dangerous dancefloor in a crooked club so your Spidey Booty sense will keep on tinglin'! Keep your geeky wardrobe nice and cheeky with this Spidey Booty t-shirt by Pengew, it's the shapely way to show love for your favorite super spider powered man! | Posted: 21 May 2016 06:00 PM PDT A gang of outlaws discusses the lack of diversity in their group while waiting to rob a train. Contains NSFW language. It turns out that the group is already way more diverse than you would expect in a historical era in which such gangs were usually quite homogeneous -all criminals and all kind of dumb. Well, they got that part right. -via Digg | ||||||||
| This Tulip Was Bred to Look Like the Canadian Flag Posted: 21 May 2016 04:00 PM PDT
It's called Canada 150 in reference to the upcoming 150th anniversary of the formation of the Canadian Confederation on July 1, 1867. The breed is a gift from the Netherlands to celebrate the occasion. Like the Canadian flag, there are red and white fields. The splash of red in the middle resembles the maple leaf on that flag. | Posted: 21 May 2016 02:00 PM PDT Without a word, John McNamee of Pie Comic manages to explain the evolution of cetaceans. The timeline may be a little off: cetaceans had returned to the sea by about 30 millions years ago, while humans developed agriculture about 12,000 years ago. But you get the idea. The little critter in panel 13 looks a lot like the Pakicetus pictured in the Wikipedia entry.
| Dog Rescued After Living On Freeway Median For Over A Month Posted: 21 May 2016 12:00 PM PDT We hear horror stories about abandoned animals saved from the jaws of death far too often these days, but the really odd cases stay with us to remind us how not to care for a pet. A German shepherd was recently saved from a freeway median in Los Angeles where she'd been living for at least five weeks after jumping out of the bed of her owner's truck. The dog, dubbed Freeway Frida by the Galt police officer Sylvia Coelho who rescued her, was first spotted by drivers on Highway 99 near Simmerhorn Road back in April, but she evaded capture so the police were unable to nab her until around May 18th. Frida was treated for a broken leg and is said to be doing well, and since she's not microchipped and her owner isn't coming forward (for obvious reasons) officer Cuelho says she might have to adopt her. | ||||||||
| Single Dad Illustrates His Love for His Daughter Posted: 21 May 2016 10:00 AM PDT Yannick Vicente, a French artist, is raising his 4-year old daughter Anaé. Recently, he illustrated 4 moments that he shared with his precious little girl. He loves her so much and people around the internet have been charmed by how he has expressed it. Vicente talked to the Huffington Post about the experience:

| Posted: 21 May 2016 08:00 AM PDT Phantomsurfr presented this picture and said, “I've been going for 27hrs straight trying to seed as much as possible before the first cold front of the season hits, but I had to stop to take this picture of the sunrise. Wheatbelt -Western Australia.” It’s stunning, with the light bouncing off the clouds, silhouetting the Mad Max machines in the foreground. | ||||||||
| This Geralt Of Rivia From The Witcher Cosplay Is Quite Enchanting Posted: 21 May 2016 07:00 AM PDT Some fantasy character costumes are easy to put together, and a pair of pointed ears or an epic beard go a long way when you're dressing up as an elf or a dwarf. But Geralt of Rivia, star of The Witcher video game franchise, is a totally unique and singular character, so cosplayers who want to embody Geralt must be born with a Witcher's soul. Cosplayer Maul from Defcon Unlimited clearly looked in the mirror and saw the eyes of a monster hunter looking back at him because his Geralt cosplay is almost too perfect, right down to the rune laden sword Maul made in his cosplay forge. -Via MEME BASE | ||||||||
| Posted: 21 May 2016 06:00 AM PDT Janeen recently attended her daughter's college graduation ceremonies (congratulations, Janeen's daughter!) and took many pictures. Another graduate at the school showed off her decorated mortarboard. She majored in respiratory therapy, not English. Still, you'd think that the one word a respiratory therapist would be expected to spell properly would be "breathe." Thanks, Janeen! |
