We are very honored and pleased to dedicate this special issue of The Journal of Antibiotics to Dr David E Cane and his outstanding achievements in the biosynthesis of antibiotics.We would like to thank all his friends and colleagues who contributed to this issue, as well as Dr Cane himself, who contributed an Editorial that summarizes his career and scientific friendships, including his longstanding collaboration with The Journal of Antibiotics.
We are grateful to the organizers of this issue, the Special Issue Guest Editors Dr Hideaki Oikawa and Dr Yi Tang, and thank them for their tremendous support with the planning and coordination of this issue.
