Obey The Blue Puppets And Don't Put It In Your Mouth

Posted: 31 Jul 2016 02:00 AM PDT

Parents have a responsibility to teach their kids it's not okay to chew on the gum stuck under tables, the dog doo on the sidewalk or that dead bird they found on the playground.

Plus they've gotta let the kids know all about that stranger danger.

But it's hard to stop putting weird stuff in your mouth when you're a kid, which is why kids who grew up in Canada in the 90s needed two furry blue puppets to tell them Don't Put It In Your Mouth.

This bizarre puppet PSA created in 1993 by the Concerned Children's Advertisers group in Canada really puts the concept of stranger danger in perspective, as in stay away from strange puppets!

It’s hard to stir up hatred when you are caught fraternizing with the enemy! Just ask King Koopa. He may think the Mushroom Kingdom is behind the hacking, but we know the leak is more likely the work of one of his rivals. The Nintendo files are full of evidence! This is the latest comic from Down the Upward Spiral.

Star Trek: Into Barkness

We know that cosplay can make humans happy and even bring them together, but can it do the same for pets? You wouldn't think that could possibly work unless you watch this adorable Paws Play video where a Star Trek cosplay helped this kitty and doggy mend their differences. They may not be as close as Spock and Kirk, but they're building a friendship that could be that tight one day -no matter how illogical it sounds.

The Peary Dinner

Posted: 30 Jul 2016 07:59 PM PDT

The following article is from Uncle John’s Factastic Bathroom Reader.

On November 11, 1909, a banquet was held in New York City honoring Admiral Robert E. Peary, recent “discoverer” of the North Pole. Here’s the actual (and bizarre) Arctic Circle– inspired menu.

• BLUE POINT OYSTERS. An oyster once harvested in Long Island, New York. (Not anymore— they’ve been near-extinct since the 1910s.)

• PETITE BOUCHEE WALRUS. Thin slices of fermented walrus meat.

• VELOUTE PTARMIGAN AUX CROUTINS. A soup made by mixing cream with stock made from the ptarmigan— a game bird with red, gristly meat— served like French onion soup, with a big slice of toast on top.)

• SUPREME DE NARWHAL, VERONIQUE. A boneless slice of narwhal meat, served with its layer of blubber intact. The large fillets of the dark gray “unicorn of the sea” were served in cream sauce and garnished with raisins.

• MIGNON DE MUSK OX, VICTORIA POMMES PARISIENNES. Musk ox looks like beef, but reportedly tastes like horse. “Victoria,” a style popular in the early 20th century, meant that the fillet was served with a black truffle sauce and lobster chunks (and potatoes in clarified butter).

• MOUSSE DE PEMMICAN, KOSSUTH EPINARDS AUX FLEURONS. Pemmican is a jerkylike preparation of dried and spiced meat. This one was reindeer meat, ground and whipped into a mousse and served in the Hungarian “Kossuth style”— with sour cream, paprika, and spinach.

• SORBET “NORTH POLE.” In fine dining, sorbets are fruit-flavored ices, eaten as a palate cleanser between courses. At this dinner, the ices were flavored with mint and sea salt.

• PERDEUX ROTI, BARDE AUX FEUILLES DE VIGNE COEUR DE ROMAINE EN SALADE. Each diner was served a roasted, whole partridge, wrapped in grape leaves and stuffed with juniper berries, and served with a romaine salad.

• BISCUIT GLACÉ KNICKERBOCKER CORBEILLE DE MIGNARDISES. Glacé is a French frozen dessert, similar to ice cream, but much, much richer, made with cream and meringue instead of cream or milk. That gives the dish a nougatlike taste and consistency. Here, it was served like the now-forgotten Knickerbocker cocktail— with rum, raspberries, oranges, lemons, and lime. (And a biscuit— a cookie— on the side.)

Pirate Beaver - Ya Land Lubbin' Ankle Biter!

Hungry Beaver by Wirdou

Pirate beavers have a really rough life, and when they're surrounded by their hungry brethren they can hardly stand to be part of beaver society! The pirate's life is full of wood, you see, and everything from ships and planks to that handsome peg leg they sport are all made of wood. So you can see why a pirate's life isn't ideal for a beaver, that is, unless the budding buccaneer intends to put together their own band of merry misfits and hit the high sea where no other beavers can be seen. Of course, if that same pirate beaver should get hungry while sailing across the sea on a wooden ship the crew might start having a sinking feeling...

People will eat you up when they see you wearing this Hungry Beaver t-shirt by Wirdou, and you'll be takin' the yo-ho-ho with you wherever you go!

No Dogs Allowed On NYC Subway Unless In A Carrier...Does A Tote Bag Count?

Posted: 30 Jul 2016 05:59 PM PDT

New Yorkers are constantly coming up with clever ways to improve their lives, and since many of them take the subway to get around town their life hacks often involve finding easier ways to carry stuff around town.

But when it became illegal to bring a dog on the subway unless locked in a carrier a guy went all NYC and figured out a way to bring his husky on the train with him- inside a giant tote bag.

(Image via Alex Romano)

He makes those yappy little purse dogs look even wimpier, doesn't he?!

As you can tell from the image at the top of the post this happy husky isn't the first tote bag dog to be smuggled onto the subway, and given how much NYC residents respect the law he won't be the last.

SymGym Is a Full Body Video Game Controller

Posted: 30 Jul 2016 04:00 PM PDT

(Photo: SymGym)

There's no need for a video game to plant you on a couch. You can get a complete workout. SymGym provides that with an exercise machine that controls a video game. Pump your arms and your legs to move, turn, dodge, punch, and more.

There are already exercise platforms for video games, such as Kinect and Wii. Gizmag explains that SymGym is different because it provides variable resistence based upon situations in a game. For example, heavy objects in the game are heavy in the machine. Running uphill in the game is physically harder on the player. This provides a more realistic gameplay experience.

When Animals Nip At Humans- The Compilation Video

Posted: 30 Jul 2016 01:59 PM PDT

Animals don't know how to use their words to express their disapproval, fear or anger, which is why preschool teachers never give animals any gold stars for properly sharing their feelings.

But they do know how to express themselves in one very impactful way- the warning nip.

This scary quick moment of lashing out tends to make humans stop pestering them and go away, and while it's not always funny when you're on the receiving end it's always funny to watch someone else get nipped.

Man, I wish I could nip at people who are annoying me without winding up in jail...

A Burrito Stuffed With Cheetos

Posted: 30 Jul 2016 11:59 AM PDT

Taco Bell continues to experiment with fusion cuisine, meaning mashing up whatever is popular into their menu somehow. The latest entry into that process is a natural outgrowth of the relationship between Frito-Lay and Taco Bell. After the success of the Doritos Locos Tacos, they are finding new ways to add junk food to fast food. Behold, the Cheeto Burrito! It will contain meat and rice in addition to Cheetos. The new burrito will be test-marketed in Cincinnati beginning in mid-August. THe recommended price is $1, so we assume you'll need to buy several. Especially if it's after midnight and you have a raging case of the munchies.

Stuffed Llama Shares Vacation Photos From Around The World On Instagram

Posted: 30 Jul 2016 10:00 AM PDT

I'm sure you've seen one of those adorable stories involving a kid receiving pictures of their beloved stuffed animal as it travels around the world before being returned to the child's loving arms.

Well this isn't quite the same as those stories, because the stuffed llama in this story doesn't belong to a little kid, it belongs to Turkish blogger Eylul Sava, and the two are having a blast as they tour the world.

The Llama With No Drama shares snapshots of his globetrotting adventures via Instagram, and although you don't see Eylul in any of the pics you know she's there because Llama has ice cream but doesn't have any money.

The group of 1,000 musicians who got together to do the Foo Fighter’s “Learn to Fly” last year had so much fun, they decided to stay together as a group! Organizer Fabio Zaffagnini arranged for a concert last Sunday.

Chemist Invents Condom That Feels Like Human Skin

Posted: 30 Jul 2016 05:59 AM PDT

(Unrelated photo by Hey Paul Studios)

Some men eschew wearing condoms during intercourse because the plastic barrier reduces the sensitivity of the penile skin. Dr. Shengxi Chen, a biochemist at Arizona State University, thinks that he's found a solution to that problem. His condom mimics the reaction of water to human skin. USA Today explains:

Most condoms repel water. That's the opposite of human skin, which loves and contains a lot of water, making condoms feel unnatural, Chen said.

Chen added materials to latex to create condoms that are eight times more water-loving than natural latex condoms, as well as stronger and more flexible, according to his tests.

It feels smoother and softer, and it's proven under a microscope: Water flows into the material as opposed to sitting in a ball on top, and the texture appears smoother than most condoms, he said.

Chen is currently seeking FDA approval to test his condom on humans.
