Five years ago today, 9‑year‑old Rachel Beckwith was killed in a tragic car accident.
Rachel had just pledged her birthday to charity: water and fallen shy of her $300 goal. Until a local news station picked up the story, and it began to spread. Hundreds of strangers started giving $9 in her honor. Then it became thousands.
Within weeks, Rachel's story had inspired $1.2 million in donations — enough to bring clean and safe water to 37,770 people in Ethiopia.
That was just the beginning.
Over the past five years, many of the people who gave to Rachel's campaign went on to give again — and some even fundraised for clean water.
Today, more than 100,000 people have clean and safe water because of Rachel Beckwith and the community she inspired.
She proved just how much impact one life can have. And we are incredibly honored to celebrate her with you today.
