Freedom Trail Players® — guides dressed in 18th-century costumed — regale landlubbers young and old with tales of piracy and the American Revolution on the popular Pirates & Patriots Tours! See where infamous pirate Captain Kidd was brought through Boston in chains and hear about the gruesome punishments inflicted on buccaneers unlucky enough to be caught in New England waters. Learn about cutlasses (swords), flintlock pistols, the hidden meanings behind the symbols of pirate flags, and how these "Gentlemen of Fortune" contributed to the struggle for independence. Pirates & Patriots Tours step off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays in August from the ArtsBoston Booth at Faneuil Hall. People of all ages will be captivated during this Freedom Trail experience exploring the underbelly of Boston, twisting and turning through the alleys, docks, and roads frequented by swashbucklers, "hired guns," mercenaries, and merchants of colonial America. In addition, Walk Into History Tours depart from the Boston Common Visitor Information Center on the hour every hour, daily, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and at 4:30 p.m., and are also offered Mondays through Fridays at 2:30 p.m., and from the ArtsBoston Booth, daily, at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. North End Tours also depart from the ArtsBoston Booth, daily, at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. All tours' tickets are available online. While in dry dock, visitors have the opportunity to board "Old Ironsides" and explore her top deck. Through the fall, the ship is open to board Tuesday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. As always, visitors are invited to interact with Constitution's crew of active duty U.S. Navy Sailors, on board the ship, as well as dockside, and inside the USS Constitution Museum, just steps away from "Old Ironsides." Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the USS Constitution Museum offers interactive, hands-on experiences for audiences of all ages. In celebration of their 40th year, on Guerriere Day, Friday, August 19, the 204th anniversary of USS Constitution's victory over HMS Guerriere, the Museum will participate in Highland Street Foundation's Free Fun Fridays with a special scavenger hunt, sailor hat making, temporary tattoos, and birthday cake! Visitors will also experience the Museum's latest exhibit, "Forest to Frigate" and learn about the War of 1812 from the view point of 19th-century U.S. Marines. The Freedom Trail Foundation is participating in the 8th annual Free Fun Fridays program sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation. On Friday, August 26, Freedom Trail Foundation-led walking tours will step off as scheduled at no cost to visitors all day. Free tour tickets will be given away on Boston Common near Brewer Fountain beginning at 10:00 a.m. This year, the Highland Street Foundation program invites visitors no-cost admission to 80 of the most treasured cultural venues in Massachusetts. Created to increase access and enrichment opportunities, Free Fun Fridays serves tens of thousands of people by opening the doors to multiple museums and institutions every Friday from late June through August each summer.
