After the FDA began requiring the disclosure of artificial trans fat, shoppers became more scrupulous. And, with an outright ban on trans fat looming, it's about to be nearly impossible to find any packaged foods that contain it. Could added sugar suffer a similar fateEmily Banks

Q&A With Tidjane Thiam
Since Tidjane Thiam took the reins as CEO of Credit Suisse one year ago, the 160-year-old bank has lost more than half its market value. Critics have scrutinized him from the start for a lack of banking experience, and the Swiss media has repeatedly speculated about a possible replacement. New food labels pre-empt less sugar added. Starting next year, the nutrition labels on cereal boxes, candy bars and every other packaged food in the U.S. will have to disclose whether the sugar was naturally occuring, like in raisins, or added later, like on the flakes. The new FDA requirement has already led to some "healthy" food makeovers. Kind, the maker of fruit and nut bars, recently announced plans to remove 14 to 56 percent of added sugars and will post sugar content on its website before the deadline.

Sadly, what he offered wasn't new, and it wasn't a coherent plan. The specifics Trump did put on the table would cripple rather than revitalize the U.S. economy … his ill-considered promises fail to address the real issues."

Several countries say the U.K. must accept freedom of movement rules in return for single-market access. France may be ready to go even further and link free movement to Britain's ambition of keeping the so-called passport rights that allow banks to sell services on the continent.

A roofer translates his politics into rhymes. Vincent "Nox" Gonzalez was a homeless teenager and treated jail as a refuge. "When I would go to jail it was kind of better than being homeless. ... You wake up, you eat, everything's just kind of set up for you." We met Gonzalez, who recited some of his rap lyrics, on our 3,000-mile bus across the U.S., a nation divided by race, party and wealth. Sign up for updates as reporter Esmé E. Deprez travels the country.
