Save NPR and PBS

Trump plans to defund public media
free press action fund

Jason,

The Trump administration is already pushing a plan to axe funding to hundreds of local NPR and PBS stations around the country. After coming out of an election where fake news was rampant and cable-news networks refused to call out racism, the last thing we need is an attack on public broadcasting.

Urge Congress to stop Trump's plan to destroy public media.

The Hill reports that Trump's transition team is recommending privatizing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the entity that oversees distribution of federal money to public radio and television stations.1

That could mean no more NewsHour, no more Frontline, and no more Democracy Now on your local station.Trump's plan closely follows a blueprint from the conservative Heritage Foundation, which seeks not only to defund the CPB but to completely eliminate funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

This is outrageous. Years of public polling show that the American people consider support for public broadcasting to be among the most important uses of their tax dollars.2 Local public stations and community news are among the few places that actually provide local reporting.

We've saved public broadcasting from cuts many times before. We can save it again:

Stop Trump: Tell Congress to save NPR and PBS.

Thanks for all that you do—
