Stop Cussing

Looking for Real News? This Is Your Best Option

Know-How

  Rooster's Crow
The news model in the U.S. is broken. That's why the number of Americans searching for "unbiased news" has surged over the last 18 months. There's no solution. Even the "unbiased" sites we researched are heavily skewed. Your only solution is to get information from multiple sources and, here's the trick, ignore the news that doesn't matter. If it makes the headlines for three days in a row... it matters. The rest is just noise.

Size matters in Washington these days.

The nation's media slapped on its body armor this weekend and officially went to war with the Trump administration.

The first shot... a fiery exchange about the size of the inauguration crowd.

It's yet another example of a dangerous trend that has us quite worried.

Our anger isn't about the left or the right. It's not about winners and losers.

It's about the health of our great (but failing) nation and a deadly trend we call "10-second politics."

We were enraged when we turned on the radio yesterday. We were looking for real news. What we got was anything but. Instead, what we heard were sound bites. Who said what... the latest tweet... a celebrity quote... who snubbed who... this fact versus that fact.

One shot after another fired in yet another American war without a purpose or an end.

Don't Feed the Beasts

We're convinced that politicians and the media that feeds like parasites on them are no different from a 6-year-old repeating a foul word in the back seat of the car.

If you ignore him... he'll stop.

Right now, little Johnny and his sister are in the back seat cussing up a storm. They love the angry looks on our faces reflecting in the rearview mirror.

They've got our full attention... and they know it.

If we'd merely turn our gaze, they'd shut up.

But no, we keep gritting our teeth. We keep yelling. And they keep cussing.

Trump and the media are going at it. Petty cussing about the size of a crowd fans the flames of a fire that's likely to burn for the next four (or eight) years.

Remember, they just want our attention... and each new tweet, comment or click on a headline gives them yet another reason to keep up the profanity.

Let's be clear. Anger won't keep our kids from cussing... and angry mudslinging doesn't fuel a great nation.

And yet everywhere we look, the headline writers and the skim-the-surface pundits are getting rich as we click on their headlines and tune into their "war" broadcasts.

It's the age of "10-second politics," and it's dividing America.

Conscientious Objections

There's only one way to keep yourself out of the fray.

We must focus on the ideas that matter. A pivotal part of our Triad is Know-How. That doesn't mean just knowing what tool is best for the job. No, it means having a solid understanding of all things important.

This passion project of mine started with a yearning to share knowledge. As the war in Washington grows, we'll ignore the petty battles and focus on the ideas that matter. We must have the knowledge to discern what's important and the intelligence to ignore what isn't (like the cussing from the back seat).

And finally, we must treat the media like the profit-hungry beast it is. The more attention we give it, the bigger it will get. Therefore, we must ignore it.

Let the kids cuss in the back seat. Eventually they will stop.

Wise men will not join in the anger.

We're smarter than that.

Be well,

Andy
