President Donald Trump's "religious freedom" proposal could weaken LGBTQ anti-discrimination protections and curb access to contraception coverage. If signed, the executive order would permit federally funded adoption and family services organizations to discriminate against same-sex couples. Earlier, Trump claimed he'd keep former President Barack Obama's protections for LGBTQ federal contractors in place. The president "continues to be respectful and supportive of LGBTQ rights, just as he was throughout the election," the White House wrote in a statement. Still, a number of LGBTQ advocacy groups were unimpressed by the move -- and for good reason.  Trump defended conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos after the University of California, Berkeley canceled the Breitbart editor's appearance. Trump didn’t refer to Yiannopoulos, who is an editor at Breitbart and openly gay, by name, but nodded to “innocent people with a different point of view.”   Acts of Hate This lesbian politician's sexuality came under fire from a conservative group.  Take Action Contact your local representative by chatting with our Facebook Messenger bot here.   Acts of Love   Ellen DeGeneres channeled “Finding Dory” to make a powerful political statement. The talk show host nodded to her role in the animated smash to indirectly throw shade on Trump's controversial travel ban that prohibits refugees and visitors from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the U.S.  This incredible, thought-provoking TV commercial is asking viewers to focus on what unites rather than divides them. “It’s easy to put people in boxes. There’s us and there’s them,” the narrator of TV2 Danmark's “All That We Share” promo says, later suggesting  that “there’s more that brings us together than we think.” A new Off-Off-Broadway play is exploring queer life in the Trump era. Still, "Boys of a Certain Age" steers clear of a partisan message and, in fact, its central Republican character "isn't a villain or a capitalist pig," but rather, "someone who cares deeply for the world he lives in," according to director Dan Dinero.
