Facebook reports strong Q4 profit, driven by mobile
Facebook's profits in the fourth quarter hit $3.57 billion, more than twice the profits it reported in Q4 2015. Mobile ads accounted for 84% of advertising profit, an increase from 80% the year before, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the company plans to focus heavily on short-form, original video.

Snap is reportedly developing a feature called "world lenses" that could impose images on real-world objects using the rear-facing cameras on smartphones, turning any surface into an advertising billboard. The company is said to be testing the technology internally in a version of the Snapchat app.

The spot was watched over 1.3 million times on YouTube in its first 24 hours, and the brand is encouraging social users to join the discussion about gender equality with the hashtag #DriveProgress.

GSD&M, Avocados From Mexico explore not-so-well-kept secrets for Super Bowl
GSD&M has revealed an extended digital version of its humorous Super Bowl spot for Avocados From Mexico, which features a quirky secret society trying to get to the bottom of who leaked the secret that avocados have good fat. The ad is accompanied by a social campaign from Richards Lerma that includes the hashtag #AvoSecrets.

Pinterest introduces search ads
Pinterest has extended search ads to brands that use Kenshoo's advertising platform, as "search is now responsible for more on-site impressions than any other Pinner action," the company reports. The Home Depot, eBay, Target and Walgreens are among those trialing the ads, which Pinterest says are designed to help consumers find the right product from the right place at the best price.

Centuries of efforts to grow bigger tomatoes that stay fresh longer have succeeded, but at the cost of becoming less flavorful and less chemically diverse, scientists report. The hope is that flavor can be restored to heirloom tomatoes without sacrificing much in terms of hardiness or yield.
