TikTok calls for more social platform transparency

Michael Beckerman, TikTok's vice president and head of US public policy, went on the offensive by sending a letter to members of the House Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee hearing defending its business practices and trying to clear up misconceptions regarding ties to China. TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer also pledged in a blog post to be more transparent regarding data and content moderation and urged other social platforms to follow suit.

Facebook ad boycott extends overseas

At least 220 overseas businesses have responded to recent prompts from the "Stop Hate for Profit" campaign and roughly 1,100 businesses worldwide have pledged to withhold Facebook ads until the end of this month or longer, according to Politico analysis. Facebook has held meetings with advertisers and pledged to hire staff with civil rights experience, but the coalition is not satisfied with the measures.
