Get Auto Repair Help
| | Dear Customer,
This month, we're celebrating CarParts.com being in business for 25 years. That's right—we've been around for a quarter of a century! We invited everyone to join in on the excitement by showing off their ride in our #DrivingMilestones Sweepstakes. Check out some of your fellow drivers' memories, and stay tuned to @CarPartscom on social media, where we'll announce the winner of a $1,000 shopping spree on CarParts.com!
In keeping with the 25th anniversary theme, this month's newsletter features cars that debuted in 1995. Even though that was over two decades ago, in some ways, it still feels like just the other day. You might remember the first time you saw a Chevy Tahoe or a Toyota Tacoma—two of our favorites that were introduced in 1995.
In our Advice from the Field section, we'll talk about the tools and equipment you need to have on hand to fix cars right. Regardless of whether you're a newbie or an industry veteran, you'll find our list of must-have tools useful when stocking your garage.
Finally, we have our monthly Auto Shop Pop Quiz, as well as the latest NASCAR Cup Series updates from Michael McDowell and the No. 34 CarParts.com Ford Mustang team. We're also including an exclusive 8% discount to say thanks for being a part of the CarParts.com community! We couldn't have reached the 25-year mark without drivers like you.

| | | | CarParts.com is celebrating its 25th anniversary – and so are the Chevy Tahoe and Toyota Tacoma. Both vehicles debuted in 1995, making them 25 years old this year. Time flies when you're having fun!
In honor of these two workhorses being around for a quarter of a century, we asked our followers which they would rather drive. The Chevy Tahoe turned out to be the most popular, scoring 55.6% of the votes, compared to the Tacoma, which earned 44.4% of the votes.
What about you? Would you rather drive a 1995 Toyota Tacoma or a 1995 Chevy Tahoe? Let us know your opinion by replying to the tweet above! |

| | | Technician A says OBD-II diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are generic and all codes are supported by all makes and models. Technician B says some OBD-II codes may have a different definition, depending on the year, make, and model of the vehicle. Who is correct? |
| | | C | Both Technician A and B |
| D | There's no such thing as OBD-II, silly! |

| | | | Correct Answer: B | Only technician B is correct. Even though the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) created the standardized list of OBD-II diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), the exact definition of each code often varies by vehicle.
For example, code P0740 is defined by SAE as "Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit/Open." But the factory repair information for a 2010 Dodge Ram defines the code as "Torque Converter Clutch Out of Range." The first definition makes you believe you're dealing with an electrical problem, while the second definition sounds more like a mechanical concern.
If you were to take the OBD-II code definition at face value without doing any further troubleshooting, you could end up wasting time and money. That's why it's a good idea to consult a repair manual or an online repair database when troubleshooting DTCs.
It's also important to note that not all vehicles support all codes. For instance, the list of possible codes you could retrieve from a 2010 Chevy Malibu will differ from that of a 1999 Toyota Camry. |
