Walmart has enrolled 500 employees into its Spotlight program, which is designed to turn enthusiastic workers into volunteer influencers who post behind-the-scenes views of life at their local stores. Jeff Zilberman of Brand Networks, which manages the Walmart program, envisions expanding the program into the world's largest employee-influencer program, and says, "Walmart is humanizing its brand and giving customers authentic, relatable content that they actually want to see and engage with."

The digital and social campaign invites people to share stories of their community bodegas using #PepsiBodega and will give similar gifts to at least 20 other bodegas in NYC, along with $100 gift cards to their customers.

Social platform Reddit acquired Dubsmash, a short-form video platform that counts TikTok as one of its biggest rivals. Reddit is maintaining the Dubsmash brand and platform and is enabling its own users to access Dubsmash's video creation and editing tools.

The potential ripple effect of Facebook's legal woes

The two lawsuits filed against Facebook by the Federal Trade Commission and more than 40 states could end up unseating one of the world's largest social platforms, but marketing experts say that would be a slow process. In the meantime, Goodway Group's Jay Friedman says Facebook could refrain from introducing features "that appear to copy competitors' differentiators," which would give competitors such as TikTok a "window to innovate" and launch competitive products and services.
