Following a previous announcement that the initial Central Valley Project water allocation for San Joaquin Valley farmers had been temporarily suspended, the Bureau of Reclamation announced that farmers in Fresno County and Tulare County will now receive zero percent of the water they are contracted for. Municipal and industrial water contractors in Fresno County and Tulare County will have their water allocations reduced from 55 percent to 25 percent. The Biden administration’s reckless decision puts some of California’s most vulnerable communities at risk of running out of water. Instead of arrogantly issuing these devastating decrees, the administration must work with the San Joaquin Valley congressional delegation to ensure Valley families and farmers receive the water that is rightfully theirs.
