President Biden sets sights on big tech

President Joe Biden signed a series of executive orders on Friday focusing on big tech that look at acquisitions and how that may reduce competition, seek new rules on how consumers' data can be used and seek the re-adoption of net neutrality rules, among other moves. Big tech executives have not commented yet, but Capital Alpha Partners' Robert Kaminski predicts carrying out orders will be "a long, contentious process that would ultimately end in litigation."

Marketers can now become certified in Snapchat ads

Snapchat is offering marketers a certification in platform advertising via a Snapchat Focus program. The Snapchat Ads Manager Campaign Activation certification covers reaching audiences, measuring cross-channel performance, split-testing, auction bidding and driving full-funnel results.

Measurement Matters
While 79% of Americans are still highly concerned about COVID-19, 66% are optimistic about the balance of the year, and the top three things people are looking forward to doing are traveling, going on road trips, and seeing family and friends, according to an Omnicom Media Group survey. The findings mean brands have to adopt "a far more targeted and customized approach to messaging and investment" to engage individuals who have different attitudes to the world opening back up, says Omnicom Media Group North America's Pamela Marsh.

Little goldfish cause big problems in Minn. lakes, ponds

City officials in Burnsville, Minn., shared photographs on social media of football-size goldfish and asked the public not to release pet goldfish into local ponds and lakes, where they "grow bigger than you think and contribute to poor water quality by mucking up the bottom sediments and uprooting plants," the tweet says. The post with images of the oversized goldfish has attracted 11,500 likes.
