November 01, 2021 Boris Johnson has lashed out at world leaders for failing to make the commitments needed to halt the climate emergency, as he spoke at the close of the G20 summit.
A visibly frustrated prime minister admitted the Rome gathering had fallen short of what was required to put the Cop26 summit on course for success in Glasgow.
Promises made to tackle the climate crisis are "starting to sound hollow", Mr Johnson told a press conference – when the "solution is clear".
And he agreed a pledge for all the biggest economies to achieve net zero emissions was "vague", after the G20 failed to set a target date of 2050.

The Big Question Why is the global temperature rise target of 1.5C so crucial? Thousands of people are descending on Glasgow for the Cop26 climate summit, with world leaders, diplomats and protesters among them.
The 12-day meeting in Scotland has been billed by British prime minister Boris Johnson as nothing less than a "turning point for the world" and by others as a last chance for countries to commit to dramatically reducing their planet-heating greenhouse gas emissions before it is too late.
The aim is to keep the global temperature rise by the end of the century to 1.5C above pre-industrial times, in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement, but why is that figure so important and are we on track to hit it?
NUMBER OF THE DAY 12% A survey by charity Marriage Foundation of 2,000 ever-married adults aged 30 and over found that couples who met online since the year 2000 had a 12 per cent risk of divorce in the first three years of marriage, compared to 2 per cent for those who met via social connections.
QUOTE OF THE DAY "I must be clear if Glasgow fails then the whole thing fails,"
– Prime minister Boris Johnson on the Cop26 UN climate summit
