Medical experts are unsure how protective vaccines will be against the new variant, but they believe that they're likely to offer protection against severe illness and death.
- A key FDA panel has narrowly voted to authorize molnupiravir to treat COVID-19. The antiviral medication made by Merck has been found to only modestly help people with COVID-19. The panel voted to allow the drug to be prescribed to high risk people with symptomatic COVID-19.
