Brittney Griner, an American basketball star, appeared in a Russian court on Friday, four months after she was arrested on cannabis possession charges at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport while travelling to play for a Russian team. Griner was arrested in February, just a week before Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Police said she was carrying vape canisters with cannabis oil. The Phoenix Mercury star and two-time US Olympic gold medallist could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of large-scale transportation of drugs. She was playing in Russia for UMMC Ekaterinburg. At a closed-door preliminary hearing on Monday in the Moscow suburb of Khimki, Griner's detention was extended for another six months, to December 20. |

Will Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony lead to criminal charges for Donald Trump? |
Former president Donald Trump has been the subject of a criminal investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's office, two impeachment inquiries led by House Democrats, a two-year special counsel probe by a legendary director of the FBI and his eponymous real estate company is currently awaiting trial on tax fraud charges. After each one, Mr Trump has emerged unscathed, typically crying "witch hunt" at the earliest opportunity and claiming that the lack of consequences for him means he has been exonerated. But now, more than 18 months after a mob of his supporters stormed the US Capitol at his urging, Mr Trump's luck may finally have run out. Tuesday's hearing of the House January 6 select committee saw a 25-year-old former assistant to one of his closest White House aides unload bombshell after bombshell about what he and members of his inner circle were saying and doing that day. Here is what could happen next. |
