Photo: Justin Sullivan/Getty Images | | | | House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wasn't home early this morning when an intruder allegedly used a hammer to attack her husband in their San Francisco residence. - "Where is Nancy, where is Nancy?" the intruder asked Paul Pelosi before the attack, Axios' Andrew Solender and Alayna Treene report.
Police officers were dispatched to the Pelosi residence around 2:27am local time, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said at a news conference today. - Officers encountered suspect David DePape, 42, and Paul Pelosi, 82, "both holding a hammer."
- DePape "pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it," Scott said.
Paul Pelosi was transferred to a local hospital early this morning, along with the suspect. - Paul Pelosi is expected to make a full recovery.
- DePape will be charged with attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary and "several other additional felonies," Scott said.
The bottom line: The attack comes amid an uptick in threats against members of Congress and a series of security incidents over the summer. | | | | | | | 2.
