| Dear , We are all horrified by the tragedy that befell Janae Edmondson, a young woman who came to St. Louis for a volleyball tournament and was severely hurt by a speeding criminal. She will return home without her legs due to the prosecutorial negligence of Kim Gardner. The criminal who did this should have been locked up. This total abdication of duty is one more stark reminder that Kim Gardner is unfit to serve in one of the most important Prosecutorial Offices in our state and should resign.
Last week I called out Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler’s proposed rule that would limit investor opportunities and small companies’ access to capital. This proposal would force retail investors’ orders into qualified auctions. If finalized in its current form, this rule would prevent market makers and other counterparties from executing broad swaths of trades, particularly in thousands of smaller, less actively traded companies. As a result, small companies, investors, and the quality of our capital markets may suffer, ultimately hampering job creation and economic growth. It is not the government’s role to pick winners and losers among issuers or investors, but that is exactly what they are proposing to do. Read my full press release and letter here.

I was deeply concerned when the Biden Administration decided to reimpose certain restrictions on contacts between U.S. and Taiwanese officials, a dangerous action that only emboldens China’s Communist Party and weakens U.S. support for our ally Taiwan. When Congress passed the Taiwan Assurance Act in 2020, we were crystal clear that the United States needed to eliminate these outdated and unnecessary restrictions on U.S.-Taiwan engagement. At a time of global instability, we must stand strong against China’s anti-democratic actions. President Biden’s bureaucratic red tape harms that stance, undermining our ability to coordinate more closely with Taiwan.
I’m proud to introduce a bill to reinforce Congressional oversight on U.S.-Taiwan relations and ensure that changes in U.S. policies towards Taiwan are aimed at deepening and enhancing this important relationship. As Russia continues its appalling war on Ukraine with the support of the brutal dictatorships in Beijing and Tehran, the U.S. must boldly stand by its closest friends and partners. I had a private briefing on the Chinese spy balloon debacle. President Biden should have projected strength against China’s clearly provocative actions, but instead he allowed the spy balloon to traverse across our skies unimpeded. I will continue to work with my colleagues to hold Biden accountable and address China’s ongoing dangerous activities.
As Co-Chair of the Abraham Accords Caucus, I led a bipartisan letter to the United Nations Secretary-General and High Commissioner for Human Rights urging them to sever all ties with Francesca Albanese, the U.N. Special Rapporteur for the Palestinians. She recently made horrifically anti-Semitic comments following a Palestinian terrorist attack against Israeli citizens, and her actions demonstrate irredeemable bias. The United Nations is deeply prejudiced against Israel, and I am calling for the UN to disband its unwarranted and dishonest investigation into Israel. Read our letter here. I reintroduced a resolution condemning Russia’s systemic and wholly illegal abduction of Ukrainian children. Russia has continued committing major human rights violations during their unprovoked war on Ukraine, and abducting hundreds of thousands of children to forcibly traffic them to Russia amounts to a genocide. Putin’s war must be condemned in the strongest possible terms, and evils like his must be stopped.
