Hey Indiana,
Chances are you've heard of the term "modes" before.
When I ask students about the modes and how they use them, they usually fall into two camps:
- Don't know what modes are and how to use them to improvise
- Know what they are, practiced them a little bit, but aren't utilizing them properly
Modes are often used in jazz to understand "pitch collections" for jazz improvisation.
You can apply different modes (a type of scale) over top of different chords within jazz chord progressions.
By themselves they won't turn you into an expert jazz improviser, but they can be helpful for opening up musical possibilities.
Because I want to make sure you have these unlocked, we created an entire free guide on the modes and how to use them in jazz.
I don't want you to be confused or intimidated by these any longer!
