The Bost Bulletin Dear Friend, The American people saw just how clear the contrast is between Republicans and Democrats on combatting the woke agenda. Most notably, Republicans voted for legislation to put parents back in charge of their children’s education, while AOC and the Democrats attacked it as “fascist.” Hard to believe that such a commonsense piece of legislation – empowering parents to know and have a say in what their children are being taught in the classroom – didn’t receive one Democrat vote. It’s just a reminder of the partisan, politicized world some of the far-left liberals are living in. Here’s the latest from a busy week in D.C. Voting for the Parents Bill of Rights Act I voted for H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act on Friday to ensure parents know exactly what their children are being taught in classroom, how schools are spending their resources, and which steps are being taken to protect students’ privacy and physical safety. Liberals in government and on school boards have pushed parents aside when determining how taxpayer dollars are spent educating their sons and daughters. Now parents are back in control. Biden Issues First Veto to Put Wokeism Ahead of Your Retirement Security This week Joe Biden issued his first presidential veto, overturning a bipartisan bill that protects your retirement security from woke political activism. The legislation – which even garnered a few Democrat votes in the House and Senate – would have stopped Biden from allowing financial planners to use subjective, hard-to-define, and politicized factors when providing guidance for retirement investments (imagine having your financial planner preach to you about climate change when you’ve come to them for investment advice for your 401k). The president has proven he doesn't want to grow seniors' savings, he wants to fund a far-left agenda. You can check out the resolution I voted for and Biden vetoed here. Digging Into Biden's Budget for Veterans Programs I chaired a House Veterans' Affairs Committee hearing on Thursday on President Biden's budget request for federal veterans programs. As a Marine, the father of a Marine, and the grandfather of a Marine, you best believe I'm fighting tooth and nail to ensure our veterans aren't used as political pawns to advance a leftist agenda. They've served their country honorably and will receive the care and benefits they've earned. Mike receives testimony from VA Secretary McDonough on veterans funding requests. Celebrating National Agriculture Day Last Tuesday marked National Agriculture Day, a day to celebrate the dedicated farmers, growers, and ranchers who help power our state and national economy. In Southern Illinois, we have more than 10,000 producers managing one of the most diverse agricultural districts in the region. They provide fuel, food, and fiber our families need each and every day. As a proud member of the House Agriculture Committee, I am working hard to ensure our farming families have a voice at the table when we begin critical negotiations on the new five-year Farm Bill. Hosting an Agriculture Advisory Board Meeting When I first came to Congress, I created an Agriculture Advisory Board comprised of farmers and producers from across Southern Illinois because I knew how important it was to hear from folks back home about how policies in D.C. were impacting them, quite literally, on the ground. Our advisory board is growing as our district has grown, taking on 24 new counties – many of them highly agricultural. On Friday I hosted a virtual meeting with our advisory board, the first of 2023 and the first under the new district boundaries. We’ve got a lot of work ahead on the upcoming Farm Bill, and I will continue to lean on these expert Southern Illinoisans for their input as the bill is drafted. Mike updates his Ag Advisory Board on recent agriculture policy developments. Most Effective Legislators in Congress The Center for Effective Lawmaking released its analysis on the most effective members of Congress. I am honored to be ranked as one of the five most effective Republican lawmakers in the House. I am committed to doing all I can to deliver conservative solutions and real results for Southern Illinois' working families. You can see the rankings and learn about how they determined the results by clicking here. Mascoutah District Office Grand Opening One of the best ways I can work to remain an effective legislator is by ensuring Southern Illinoisans receive the quality, responsive constituent service they deserve. We recently moved our Metro East constituent office from O’Fallon to Mascoutah to be more centrally located following congressional redistricting. We hosted a Grand Opening for the new office and couldn’t be more excited that over 100 constituents stopped by. Had many informative conversations and saw many old friends as well. If you live in the Metro East region and you have a casework issue we can help you with, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are here to serve you. Mike speaks with constituents about the services his office can provide. Here is the office contact information – feel free to give us a call or stop by if you are in the neighborhood!
