Don't be scared...

Hello Indiana, ​ I know you think that you only want to play harmonica for yourself. Playing with other people or in front of an audience (even if it is just friends and family) is too scary! ​ If you were here in my studio I wouldn't take no for an answer. I would grab my guitar and gently nudge you to play some harmonica while I played a 12 Bar Blues. It doesn't have to be anything more than that but you will immediately discover that it is so much fun playing with other people. I'm not sure how to make you have a little jam while you are all the way over there but hopefully I can convince you to do it yourself. ​ I've been playing music full time since 2008, taught thousands of lessons, played hundreds of gigs, recorded dozens of sessions and practiced for many many many hours. The best thing about music is still playing with friends. So much so that my wife Jo will send me out to jam with my pals when she senses that I'm feeling a bit low. ​ You can see me having a jam with some of my pals here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BY_UGYxTAQ​ ​ You have probably started learning harmonica for your own pleasure. You chose an instrument which is supremely portable so that you can carry it everywhere you go in case you get a wee moment to yourself. ​ You never even thought that you might one day play with other musicians. BUT It's not as difficult as you might think. ​ Once you know the 12 Bar Blues chord progression and two or three licks you can sit in with your friends' band and play a little Blues. It doesn't have to be more serious than that if you don't want it to be. ​ Be brave. ​ Call up that friend or family member who has always said that you should get in touch for a jam and say that you want to hang out. ​ Happy harping! ​ Tomlin ​ P.S.
