Ag Market News MORE Initiative Economic Impact Missouri State Fair Missouri Grown Missouri Agriculture Updates May 19, 2023 Provide Feedback on Upcoming Farm Bill The House Committee on Agriculture wants your input on the next farm bill. It has created an online portal to solicit public feedback. Committee leaders believe this tool will allow members to better share the experiences and priorities of agriculture producers and consumers. In addition to questions regarding location and occupation, the online portal asks responders to specify the farm bill title they are most interested in as well as which programs they believe are performing well. It also asks for feedback regarding programs that could be improved upon and additional ideas that should be considered. There is space for respondents to include additional information if they feel it could be useful. Congress last approved a new farm bill in 2018. It will expire on Sept. 30, putting increasing pressure on legislators to get a new bill passed. The massive piece of legislation is divided into 12 sections, or "titles," that drive agriculture programs and funding in a number of areas. They include commodity programs, conservation, trade, nutrition, credit, rural development, research, forestry, energy, horticulture, crop insurance and other miscellaneous issues. The online portal will continue accepting public feedback through June 9. Ag Health and Safety Course Available This course, available through the University of Nebraska Medical Center, is designed to examine key health and safety issues specific to rural and agricultural workers. Experts will present course material relevant to those working in health care, public health, education, and safety professions. You may choose to participate in any or all of the three sessions. The in-person sessions will be held in Nebraska. The live stream sessions will be delivered via Zoom. The links to the online modules will be sent via email. At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be better able to: Evaluate the core elements of agricultural medicine. Integrate the anticipation, recognition, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of occupational and environmental illnesses and injuries within rural and agricultural communities. Qualify to become an AgriSafe Provider in order to develop sustainable agricultural occupational health and safety delivery programs within their region. As a way of saying thank you to rural and urban health care providers, emergency services personnel, and those who provide other essential services to our communities, this course is offered free of charge. However, registration is required. The textbook is available for purchase at $90 (optional). The deadline to register is July 11, 2023. Drought Condition Submission Reports and photographs are essential tools used to assess drought conditions. The Department encourages the public to submit information and photographs about conditions in their area in order to help local, state and national decision-makers assess drought conditions and impacts in Missouri. If you would like to submit drought-related conditions and impacts for your area, please fill out the survey form at Condition Monitoring Observer Reports (CMOR). Benchmarks are survey monuments in the ground that indicate elevation. Two of these benchmarks were set in 1935!
