Bayar Baayarsaikhan, 31, has been overweight most of his life. At his heaviest, he weighed 500 pounds.
A doctor's visit in January 2021 revealed the reality of the state of his heath. He was diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea.
"I have two kids. I was still young. I was 29 at the time. And my doctor told me that my life expectancy was like mid-40s," he said. "I thought, I don't want to die in my 40s. I want to see my kids grow up."
That was the moment Baayarsaikhan decided he needed to make a serious lifestyle change. Today, he has lost nearly half his body weight, shedding 230 pounds in two years. His approach? He avoided the diet mentality and focused on eating habits that he could maintain for the long run, not just for the short term, like practicing portion control and cutting back on sweets.
