Dark chocolate may be delicious, but is it healthy?
what's got us buzzing
Dark chocolate may be delicious, but is it healthy?
Let's start with the positives. Chocolate is packed with antioxidants, can help lower blood pressure, and may even protect your skin from sun damage. It's also got some fiber and minerals like iron, magnesium, copper, and manganese. Just make sure that you eat dark chocolate with a high cocoa content from quality brands to reap these perks!

OK, now what are the risks? Dark chocolate is high in calories, which isn't the end of the world, but it's important to remember that moderation is key.

Perhaps the biggest risk on the list, according to recent research from Consumer Reports, is the high level of heavy metals cadmium and lead found in some bars of dark chocolate. Yes, lead. But according to medical toxicologist Kelly Johnson-Arbor, MD, "there's no evidence that occasional consumption of dark chocolate is harmful to human health because of heavy metal exposure." If you're still concerned, you can limit your consumption and stick to suggested serving sizes.

Do the pros outweigh the cons? That's up to you! Only you can decide whether the benefits of eating dark chocolate are worth the potential risks. We're just supplying the facts. Either way, I'll support whatever decision you make, with my delicious dark chocolate treats in hand.

What are the best ways to deal with depression and anxiety?

What are the best ways to deal with depression and anxiety?
Depression and anxiety are two different mental health conditions that can share similar symptoms. They often overlap in changes in sleep patterns and energy levels, increased irritability, and issues focusing or concentrating.
While a therapist can offer more personalized guidance, these strategies may help you cope:
Let yourself feel what you're feeling instead of suppressing it.
Do something within your control, even if it's completing a small task.
Implement a daily routine or regular schedule (with time for self-care practices!).
Get a good night's sleep. Try to get at least 7 to 9 hours, if possible.
Reach out for support. You don't need to handle it alone. Call a therapist or loved one.
Relax. (Easier said than done.) Try breathing exercises, massage therapy, or meditation.
Learn more about how to identify and treat coexisting symptoms of depression and anxiety.
