| Dear , Last week I voted for the largest spending cut in history, over $2 trillion. This debt ceiling deal closes loopholes and increases work requirements on welfare programs to get able-bodied Americans back in the workforce – promoting a healthy tax base and restoring the dignity of self-sufficiency. It increases defense spending by 3.5% and protects funding for veterans, while implementing an immediate 11% cut on the bloated federal bureaucracy and clawing back the remaining $30 billion in unspent COVID funds. We are also repurposing $20 billion of funding for Nancy Pelosi’s IRS agents to further protect American taxpayers from unnecessary government overreach. This is just a warm-up. Congress will continue to fight to save taxpayers even more money every single year. Thanks to House Republicans the full faith and credit of the United States remains strong. The U.S. has never defaulted on its debt, and it won’t today. Read my full press release on this legislation here. My Small Entity Update Act plays a vital role in expanding investment opportunities for all Americans, improving access to capital for small businesses, and strengthening our public markets. I am pleased to say this bill passed in a strong bipartisan manner last week, sending a message the House will continue to support entrepreneurs. Small businesses, which make up 99% of all enterprises and employ almost half of the U.S. workforce, are disproportionately affected by overly burdensome regulatory barriers. These companies represent the engine of our economy and are far too often subject to one-size-fits-all regulations that limit job creation and economic growth. Read my full press release on this legislation here. I went on the air with Mark Reardon to talk about our big wins in the Fiscal Responsibility Act, as well as my capital formation legislation. Click here to listen. I helped lead a letter to the United States Trade Representative pressuring the Biden Administration to hold our trading partners accountable for their international commitments as part of the USMCA. I am pleased to say that pressure worked and the U.S. recently initiated formal settlement proceedings against Mexico, challenging their restrictions on U.S.-grown corn and other biotech crops. You can read more on these proceedings that will help American farmers and our agriculture communities here. The House recently passed a total of four bills that will make U.S. public markets more attractive for companies, help small businesses and entrepreneurs raise capital, and expand access to high-growth opportunities for investors. One of those was my Small Entity Update Act, and I managed the debate on the House Floor for each of these bills as part of my responsibility as Chair of the Capital Markets subcommittee. Watch here. Academy nomination applications for the class of 2028 are now open! It is a great privilege to be able to nominate outstanding students to U.S. service academies, and I cannot wait to hear from all those seeking a nomination. Click here for more information on the application process. Diane Jones and I talked about the debt ceiling, Joe Biden’s disastrous mortgage rule, and all the events and meetings in Franklin County my team and I have done recently. Listen in here. Sincerely, Ann Wagner Member of Congress |
