Poll points to anything 'up to' a Labour landslide |
|
| A new MRP poll by Best for Britain has attracted a lot of attention in the village today. It puts Labour on 470 seats, which would be a majority of 290, but a number of assumptions can be fed into the model that would bring Labour down to just short of a majority. In other words, it points to anything between a hung parliament and a bigger-than-Blair Labour landslide. It is a good thing that it uses the new constituency boundaries that will come into effect this year, but my starting point would be the Electoral Calculus projection on new boundaries of the current opinion-poll average, which is a Labour majority of 184. Beyond Topline, an excellent poll-watching Twitter account, suggests that, taking into account local elections and the electoral geography they imply, and the historical average poll narrowing as we approach the general election, the central projection of a wide range of possible outcomes is a Labour majority of 38. |
