Please join Axios Pro: Energy Policy reporter Jael Holzman on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET for a virtual event exploring how electrification and national security concerns are supercharging Hill support for mining. Former President Trump announced on social media that he received a letter from special counsel Jack Smith saying he's a target of the grand jury investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

  • Trump wrote that the letter, which he said he received Sunday night, gives him "4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and Indictment."

Between the lines: Democratic lawmakers had largely avoided weighing in on Trump's first two indictments. But the possibility of a third one — based on the Jan. 6 attack — is making them more vocal, Axios' Andrew Solender writes.

This time, it's personal: Members of Congress were targets of the Capitol attack. Many feel Trump evaded accountability when the Senate voted to acquit him.

  • "People feel it when you're the victim," Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.) told Axios. "Our government wasn't just the victim, but the people in the room were the victims as well."

"A mob of insurrectionists violently attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6th in order to halt the peaceful transfer of power," House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) tweeted.

  • "The American people deserve to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth," he added.
  • It's a shift in tone for Jeffries, who reacted to the first two indictments with brief statements focused on the impartiality of the justice system.

By coincidence, a pretrial conference on the documents case is being held this afternoon in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Michele Norris, the well-known columnist and radio host, asked people to do something unusual: In just six words, write about your experience of race in America.

Some examples, out of 500,000+ responses Norris received, via her publisher, Simon & Schuster:

  • "You're Pretty for a Black girl."
  • "White privilege, enjoy it, earned it."
  • "Lady, I don't want your purse."
  • "My ancestors massacred Indians near here."
  • "Urban living has made me racist."
  • "I'm only Asian when it's convenient."

The fight over the "Taco Tuesday" trademark is over, Axios' Kelly Tyko writes.

  • Taco John's confirmed to Axios today that it will abandon its longtime trademark registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office after Taco Bell fought to free it.
  • Restaurants across the country can now use the term to promote Tuesday specials without fear of cease-and-desist letters.

Taco John's owned the Taco Tuesday registration in 49 states. A business called Gregory's owns it in New Jersey.
