As salaamu alaykum, Indiana—
Last night, hundreds of Google workers and Bay Area community members rallied outside the Google Cloud Next conference in San Francisco.
In an unprecedented moment, over 30 Bay Area activists chained themselves to each other at the main intersection and pedestrian bridge, effectively blocking off traffic and disrupting Google Cloud's biggest event of the year to demand Google drop its $1B contract with the Israeli military and government.
Tell Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian: #NoTechForApartheid.
Google Cloud is celebrating its first year of profitability at their conference this week.
That's why Google workers and the Bay Area community made it clear yesterday that there is nothing to celebrate as long as Google continues to profit off of Israeli apartheid, state violence, and the violence Palestinians face living under military occupation.
We refuse to allow business as usual for war profiteers like Google Cloud that power apartheid and violence.
For almost two years, Google and Amazon workers have been organizing against their employers' joint contract called Project Nimbus — a shadowy $1 billion cloud contract that helps the Israeli government surveil Palestinians, expand illegal settlements, and inflict violence on Palestinians living under siege and occupation.
Through Project Nimbus, Google is only helping to make Israeli apartheid more efficient, more violent, and deadlier for Palestinians.
But last night, Bay Area community activists and Google workers effectively took over the central space at the Google Cloud Next conference, kicking up the #NoTechForApartheid campaign to another level and gathering press hits on this unprecedented direct action from the LA Times1 to the San Francisco Chronicle,2 to Reuters3 and beyond.
We're making it clear to Google that after over two years of collective organizing, we will not stop until they cut Project Nimbus.
Thank you for everything you do.
