 | The gunman in last week's mass killing in Maine was found dead. | - The details: Robert Card, 40, was found Friday near the locations of the rampage in Lewiston. He died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
- The victims: Card killed 18 people at a bowling alley and a restaurant on Wednesday. They included Michael Deslauriers II, who tried to fight back against the gunman.

 | The U.S. will start punishing student loan servicers for making mistakes. | - Today: The Biden administration will announce it's withholding $7.2 million from one servicer after it failed to send timely statements, leading to over 830,000 missed repayments.
- Why it matters: The restart of student loan payments this month has been plagued by problems. Servicers told some borrowers they owed more than $10,000 a month.
