Ellsworth Kelly OCTOBER SPECIAL: Half-off adult tickets to The Culture Throughout October, adults can save 50 percent when they purchase tickets to The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century during select times! Tickets must be purchased on-site only for ticket times between 11 am and 2 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Ticket Special FREE FRIDAYS: The Culture October 20 | 10 am-8 pm | Free Experience The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century for free! On Fridays, ticketed exhibitions are free and the Museum is open late, with the last entry into the exhibition at 8 pm. DROP IN COLLECTION TOUR: Significant Sculptures October 20 | 1–2 pm | Free Join a SLAM docent for an engaging tour of the Museum's collection. October's theme, Significant Sculptures, highlights three-dimensional objects throughout the collection. Tours begin in Sculpture Hall are limited to 15 visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. TEACHER WORKSHOP: Hip Hop Dance Evolution October 21 | 10:30 am-2 pm | Free, space is limited Current and preservice teachers are invited to join us for a Teacher Workshop inspired by The Culture. Following a visit to the exhibition, teachers will learn about historical influences and evolutions in hip hop dance. They will then engage in a movement workshop led by MJ Imani, Hip Hop Crew Artistic Director at COCA. Lunch and materials will be provided. Registration is required. Click the link below to register. Hip Hop Dance Evolution FAMILY SUNDAY: Hair and Adornment October 22 | 1-4 pm | Free You're invited to the Museum every Sunday for hands-on art activities and special interactive components for kids within the galleries. In connection with The Culture,  this week's art activity will highlight Wole Lagunju's Irawo II, a new addition to the Museums collection! Create your own dream hairstyle in an art activity utilizing the SLAM photo booth. Read more on our blog! Docent guides provide insight into SLAM's program during its 60th anniversary A common misconception in the museum world is that docent and gallery attendant are synonymous. While responsibilities vary by institution, the two equally important roles differ in their relationship to the art and the audience. Gallery attendants protect the art for future generations. Docents, also called guides, help visitors enjoy art in the present moment. SLAM docents lead drop-in collection tours as well as scheduled tours for schoolchildren, families, and adult groups.
