November 13, 2023 Plastics & Rubber Manufacturing The plastics and rubber products manufacturing sector includes establishments that make goods by processing plastics materials and raw rubber. The man-made fiber industry covers the manufacturing of cellulosic, noncellulosic, and polyester fibers. Since 1953, most man-made fibers are synthetic fibers, so their production falls under plastics manufacturing Plastics and rubber materials are both made from the same families of polymers. The polymers are mixed with a complex blend of materials known as additives. Rubbers are elastomers, these are polymers with an elastic property. This elasticity differentiates rubbers from plastics. Elastic means that the material can be stretched and, when released, returns to within at least 90% of its original dimensions and shape within a period of time, at room temperature. The most common methods are:  Plastic extrusion Injection molding Rotational molding Plastic extrusion Injection blow molding.
