| Dear , One of the most important roles of Congress is to support our military and provide for the nation’s defense, and this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is one of the best I have seen during my time in Congress. I voted for the NDAA because it is a $3.6 billion win for our region, includes the largest pay raise for our troops in more than 20 years, and makes historic investments in deterring and countering our enemies like Russia, China, and Iran. Read my full release here. I had an extremely informative meeting with Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Generals last week. I appreciated the opportunity to get an update on their efforts to root out Hamas in Gaza, including the destruction of key tunnels under Gaza where the terrorists have been in hiding. We also discussed the ongoing efforts to rescue the innocent hostages who were captured by Hamas and how the IDF plans to get them back home where they belong. This is a unique war with global effects, and this meeting only reaffirmed my commitment to supporting Israel during this critical time and ensuring they have the resources necessary to fully defeat these terrorists.
My colleagues and I in the Senate also had a separate briefing on the hostages being held in Israel. These innocent hostages critically need our support, and we will continue working to build support in Congress so they can make it home to their loved ones. I held a Subcommittee on Capital Markets hearing to discuss our financial regulatory landscape. It’s incumbent upon this Committee to highlight the indispensable roles of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in upholding transparency, accountability, and stability within our markets. However, recent developments have raised significant concerns, necessitating a thorough review of their approaches and impacts. Watch our hearing here.
Bloomberg Law highlighted my questioning of the Chair of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, specifically my concerns that their recently proposed rule would drive away accountants and auditors from the field and turn them more into police officers than the finance professionals they are. Read more on these concerns here. I went live on the air with Annie Frey to give an update on the Biden impeachment inquiry and our ongoing work to find justice and transparency for the nation.
